Once again Silesia, ridden perfectly by Rebbeca Williams, proved her staying ability by winning her third career race over 2444m in the Cool Breeze Rentals H/Cap at Mornington on Monday the 19th of September, 2011. Starting from barrier one, Rebbeca let Silesia drop to the rear of the field allowing her to settle and relax in her stride for more than 2000m of the race. With 400m to go, Rebbeca urged Silesia forward and coming the widest in the field at the turn into the straight set out down the middle of the course to over take the leader with 50m to go and went on to win by a length on the post. Silesia certainly looks right at home in races beyond 2400m.

Con Act (NZ)

Con Act won his maiden race in the Seymour Insurance Services 3yo and up at Seymour on Thursday the 1st of September, 2011. Ridden by Nick Hall, Con Act dropped out to the rear of the field soon after the start, with Nick letting his mount settle into a relaxed stride until nearing the turn into the straight where he moved Con Act forward along the rail to a position behind the two leaders. With an opening along the rail presenting itself, Nick urged Con Act forward, but unfortunatly the opening closed up at the 200m mark and Nick had to take hold of Con Act and drop back behind the leaders again. With about 50m to go Nick managed to find another opening between the two front runners and asking Con Act for an effort took the lead right on the winning post to win by a short half head. A great ride by Nick and Con Act can look forward to more wins in the future especially over longer distances.

Silesia

Five year old Bay Mare, Silesia, ridden by pick up ride jockey, Roger Booth, won her second career race at Pakenham in the Pakenham House of Golf H/Cap over 2428m on Sunday the 28th of August, 2011. Missing the start but picking the field up quickly, Roger had Silesia in third last place on the fence for more than a lap and a half of the Pakenham track until the 600m mark where he started a forward run around the field. Entering the straight and with a wall of horses still in front of them, Roger found a gap and drove Silesia into it, when suddenly the gap closed slightly causing Roger to take hold of his mount and get her balanced again. Luckily with less than 100m to go the gap reopened and with Roger asking Silesia for another effort she swept to the lead and went on to win brilliantly by a length.

With Shaun Nolen in the saddle, Fantastic Porscha got away to a reasonable start and was running on the rail with two horses on his outside in the middle of the field. At the 1000m mark outside horses coming around the field shuffled Fantasti Porscha back to third last, still on the rail. At the 600m mark Shaun asked his mount for an effort and coming around the turn into the straight was rounding up the field with only one horse on his outside. Racing down the outside of the track Fantastic Porscha hit the front with 20m to go and went on to win in fine fashion.

Pincent, ridden by Damian Browne, won his maiden race in the Off the Rails maiden Plate over 1200m at the Sunshine Coast races on Sunday the 3rd of July, 2011. Getting away to a good start, Damian had Pincent nicely positioned in fourth place, one off the rail for most of the race, until the turn into the straight when he took Pincent forward, three wide to tackle the leaders. Letting down nicely for Damian and with a 100m to go Pincent and Zamboni fought out a thrilling race to the post, with Pincent winning out to win by the shortest of margins in a photo finish. Madame De Lago

Madame De Lago, ridden by Mark Reuben, won her second career race in the SOS Plumbing Services (Qld) P/L in the Class 1 H/Cap over 1100m, at the Sunshine Coast all weather track on Sunday the 22nd May, 2011. With only five horses competing because of the overnight rain, Mark dropped Madame De Lago towards the rear of the field shortly after the start. Sitting nicely on the pace and staying out of trouble one off the rail, Mark came wide around the field on the home turn and headed down the centre of the straight. At the 200m mark it looked like Madame De Lago was not going to pick up the leader, but with Mark asking her for a final effort she responded and took the lead with 50m to go and went on to win going away by 1 length on the post.

Madame De Lago

Cementing her auspicious 10 length trial win over 1000m on 3rd May, Madame De Lago, ridden by Mark Reuben won her maiden race in the PFD Food Services Maiden Plate over 1000m on the Sunshine Coast track, Queensland, on Sunday the 8th May, 2011. Having the luxury of being in the first race on a track rated a Heavy 8, which was of some concern, she camped happily behind the line of five contesting the lead and just cruised past them in the straight to win untouched by 2.5 lengths, .5 lengths to third and 11 lengths to fourth! Well ridden by Mark Reuben who, of course, rides all the JSL horses in their work at the Sunshine Coast and knows them inside out, which is a huge advantage come raceday.  The commentator was quick to point out that he had seen Mark walking the track very studiously prior to the race and how that must have had a telling factor on where he was aiming to be in the race.

After a long wait in the stalls, Jarrod had Set To Talk away well from the barrier and settled his mount towards the rear of the field one off the rail. Content to settle his mount and judging the pace of the race nicely, Jarrod waited until the 600m mark from home before he urged Set To Talk after the leaders and coming six wide around the turn into the straight and reaching the 200m mark she sprinted past the field to go on and win easily by over two lengths.

Holding these positions until nearing the turn into the straight where Jarrod moved Bluey's Mist alongside Talcum and they settled down to battle it out to the finish. With 50m to go, and Jarrod asking her for a final effort, Bluey's Mist surged to the lead to go on to win by half a length from the fast finishing Glenariff with Talcum weakening to finish third. With 600m to go Jamie urged Laudit around the field and on entering the straight six wide took an opening in the field and set off after the leader. With 150m to go Jamie switched Laudit towards the fence and overtook the leading horse, The Blues, on the inside running and went on to a nice win by a length and a quarter on the post. Down Under Boy, perfectly ridden by Steven Arnold, won the Mal Seecul H/Cap over 2000m at Caulfield on Saturday the 8th of January, 2011. Starting from barrier 6 in a field of 9, Steven let Down Under Boy drift to the back of the field to be last on the fence after 200m. Happy with the way his mount was settling, Steven trailed the field as the pace quickened, with the leaders challenging each other 600m from the finish. Turning into the straight Steven moved Down Under Boy 5 horses wide to find a clear passage and then urging his mount on after the leaders, hit the front three horses wide with 20m to go and went on to win by a neck on the post. A very pleasing win for the owners, Mr & Ms Eric Buttler, Ms L Stone and trainers John and Sheila as Down Under Boy has not had a lot of luck in his career, but has always shown great heart and potential.

Shortly after the start, and in a bunched field, Michelle had her mount one off the fence and worked hard to settle the mare with the race being run at a muddling pace. Coming to the turn into the straight and with the field spreading right out across the track, Michelle took Midnight Pearl up to the leaders, 8 horses wide and coming right down the centre of the track took the lead with 50m to go and went on strongly to win by half a length. A pleasing win for the owners, Messers Waldron, O'Brien and Griffiths and for their new trainers, John and Sheila.

Crafty Lady

With the benefit of an execellent ride from Shaun Nolen, and ability inherited from her Dam, Group 1 winning mare, Macedon Lady, Crafty Lady won her second career race in the A1 Tyrepower 3yo and up fillies and mares 1300m at Wangaratta on Friday the 12th November,2010. Awkwardly away at the start and with good speed on up front, Shaun was able to keep his mount running along with the speed in the centre of the field one out from the rail. With 600m to go he moved Crafty Lady towards the leaders looking for a run on the outside. Rounding the turn into the straight Shaun found his run on the outside was blocked but immediatly took Crafty Lady back towards the rail and finding a gap between the two leaders steered Crafty Lady through, one out from the rail and with 50m to go went past the leader, Prussian Knockout to win going away by half a length.

With 200m to go Set To Talk took the lead and went on to win untroubled by three lengths. A welcome win for this 4yo Bay mare for its owners and trainers John and Sheila.

Fantastic Porscha

Fantastic Porscha lived up to his name, when according to the course broadcaster, he finished at a 100 MPH to win his maiden race in the John Smeaton PLate, over 1200m at Wodonga on Sunday the 25th July 2010. Starting from a wide barrier, Jockey Linda Meech was content to allow her mount to sit towards the rear until the 500m mark, when she sent Fantastic Porscha forward to be coming six wide into the turn into the straight. With 200m to go it looked like an impossible task for Fantastic Porscha to win, but under a magnificent ride from Linda, hit the front to win by the narrowest of margins. A great result for her owner, Mrs J Thomas and trainers John and Sheila.

Crafty Lady

Looking after John and Sheila's entries for the Geelong meeting, part owners of Crafty Lady, Frank (The strapper) and his wife Karen Butler were delighted with their horses maiden win in the Chargold Project Management H/Cap, over 1200m on Friday the 2nd July, 2010. Shortly after the start, jockey Steven Vella was locked away on the rail in fifth position and with a tightly packed field had to be content to keep his mount as settled as possible, and hope a run would present its self in the home straight. At the 600m mark things were not looking good and Steven still had a wall of horses in front of him and Crafty Lady. On entering the straight a small opening allowed Steven to get a look at the front runners, then with 100m to go another opening between the front two horses allowed Steven to charge through the gap, and go on to chalk up his second win for himself and the stable by a length and a quarter. A very impressive performance by Crafty Lady for her connections with better things to come.
