Fantastic Porscha
Fantastic Porscha lived up to his name, when according to the course broadcaster, he finished at a 100 MPH to win his maiden race in the John Smeaton PLate, over 1200m at Wodonga on Sunday the 25th July 2010. Starting from a wide barrier, Jockey Linda Meech was content to allow her mount to sit towards the rear until the 500m mark, when she sent Fantastic Porscha forward to be coming six wide into the turn into the straight. With 200m to go it looked like an impossible task for Fantastic Porscha to win, but under a magnificent ride from Linda, hit the front to win by the narrowest of margins. A great result for her owner, Mrs J Thomas and trainers John and Sheila. |

Crafty Lady
Looking after John and Sheila's entries for the Geelong meeting, part owners of Crafty Lady, Frank (The strapper) and his wife Karen Butler were delighted with their horses maiden win in the Chargold Project Management H/Cap, over 1200m on Friday the 2nd July, 2010. Shortly after the start, jockey Steven Vella was locked away on the rail in fifth position and with a tightly packed field had to be content to keep his mount as settled as possible, and hope a run would present its self in the home straight. At the 600m mark things were not looking good and Steven still had a wall of horses in front of him and Crafty Lady. On entering the straight a small opening allowed Steven to get a look at the front runners, then with 100m to go another opening between the front two horses allowed Steven to charge through the gap, and go on to chalk up his second win for himself and the stable by a length and a quarter. A very impressive performance by Crafty Lady for her connections with better things to come. |

Zupacool
After running into rain affected tracks in the Benalla and Cranbourne cups, Zupacool, courtesy of a brilliant ride by Luke Nolen, showed his true ability by winning the Jayco Bendigo Cup, over 2200m on Wednesday the 28th October, 2009. Dropping back to take up a place on the rail towards the rear of the field, Luke allowed the horse to settle nicely, saving ground and relaxing with the horses up front setting a very genuine pace for the race. Rounding the turn into the straight, Luke moved up on the inside behind the leading horses looking for a run. A small opening presented itself and Luke attempted to take Zupacool through it but it started to close up again. To Zupacool's credit he put his shoulder back into the closing gap and broke through to take the lead with 50m to go, holding off the Damien Oliver ridden, Crossthestart, to win in race record time of 2min 15 sec. Luke and Zupacool have given John and Sheila and the horse's owners a great thrill after having such bad luck with the weather in the horse's previous runs. A start at Flemington could be on the cards in the Queen Elizabeth next week. |
